In Indian hytory of earthquake Mw 7.6 Bhuj earthquake of Gujarat Province is one of the two most deadly earthquakes. This quake struck on the Republic Day morning, January 26, 2001. This quake killed 19,727 and injured 166,000 persons. 348,000 houses were destroyed and an additional 844,000 were damaged resulting overall losses of properties of $1.3 billion. At least 18 people killed and some injured in southern Pakistan.
The earthquake was felt throughout northwest India and much of Pakistan. Also felt in western Nepal and Bangladesh.Most destruction was occurred in the Bhuj-Ahmadabad-Rajkot area and other parts of Gujarat. Many bridges and roads damaged in Gujarat.
